Artist On The Rise: Rapper G-Paris
A SONG TO CHECK OUT: “Wings” by G.Pari$
“I just fell in love with the beat and I was like brooo I gotta do something.”
Meet South Florida rapper G-Paris. Kymani Durrant (G.Pari$) is a twenty-two-year-old artist from West Palm, Florida. He is mastering his craft daily to be a part of the extensive list of hot Florida rappers. His musical journey began with him hosting parties with friends and promoting his music along the way, but he's now decided to only focus on the music. His first released song was a freestyle called "Dead Presidents," posted on SoundCloud back in 2017. G.Paris is quick with his lyricism and freestyling abilities. Travis Scott, Tyler the Creator, and J.Cole are where he looks for inspiration and plays a part in his music-making. He describes his sound as bouncy melodic, but he is versatile depending on the beat and how he's feeling that day. G.Paris says there are four stages in the musical journey; idea, trying, giving up, and mastering. He says he is in the mastering stage, continuously working on his music, maintaining confidence, and making sure he is in a good space to create. G.Paris has a lot for us to look forward to this summer as he is working on his project that is soon to be released. I got the pleasure to speak with the artist more about him as a person and his work. Check it out below.
Who are you? Where are you from?
GP: I'm from west palm beach Florida. It's real quiet around here, not much goes on due to covid but before me and my homies would really just throw parties around the city and just kind of like lighten up the area. As for me as an artist, I would try to push my music out there while I'm doing these parties. trying to make everything work together.
How did you come up with the name G.Pari$?
GP: I used to go by Raheem-banks but something just told me I don't really like that one, I kind of want to change it. Then I heard about the brand Goyard and I was like yo I love that name. So I called myself Goyard Marley then I was like nah that's too long. So it's G-Paris, Goyard Paris, cause the company is in Paris
How would you personally describe your sound?
GP: I would say I'm very versatile. I can't really pinpoint what I sound like. I hear a beat and it just matches whatever mood I'm in at that very moment. I would say I'm very melodic. A very bouncy melodic kind of vibe when it comes to the music.
Where do you find inspiration? What artists, genre, or things?
GP: in all honesty I kind of just talk to myself to see. When I'm in those funks when I'm not in the mood to create, I talk to myself to see why I'm not in that mood. That's just how I figure out what to do next. As far as influences I'm a big fan of Travis Scott, Tyler the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole. They all kind of have a piece on my music.
What does your creative process look like when it comes to making music?
GP: I would kind of just go through beats until I find the right one but I have to be in the right headspace to work, because if I'm not and I kind of force it, it's just not going to sound good. I'll find a bunch of beats, listen to them. It will probably be like 20 beats and I'll probably find 1 out of the 20. I will just sit and listen to that beat until I'm familiar with it. Take 1-3 days to listen to it and get the beat locked in my head that way it's easier to execute when I record.
Zodiac Sign?
GP: Leo
One song heavy in your rotation right now?
GP: I'm stuck between two. Transparntsoul by Willow Smith and Break it off by Pink Panthress
What's next for G-Pari$?
GP: A lot more music!
