Meet The Performers: Cym
CYM (pronounced SIM) is a singer, songwriter, and model originally from Orlando, FL. She made her first musical moves in Brazil at the age of 15 when her single “Bring on the Night” rose to the top of the iTunes charts. Known for her rhythmically Alternative R&B sound and melodic performances Cym caught the attention of US audiences touring with Marc E Bassy in 2016 on the “Groovy People Tour”. In 2020 she began preparing her debut EP “LOVE CYM”, a collaborative project with Grammy award-winning producers Ayo N Keyz, which also features Bassy on the remix to her single "Karma". Both intimate and candid, the project takes you on a rhythmic journey through the pages of Cym's personal journal. Trials and tribulations, roller-coaster relationships, self-awareness, mental health, and confidence are just a few topics the Up and Coming R&B/Pop songstress touches on in her new project. " I wanted to give people peace of mind in knowing that it's okay to be vulnerable and that's why I tell my truths through my lyrics. I've been in a cloudy place for a few years and I can honestly say that releasing this project has given me a sense of clarity and I truly believe in my artistry again”. Cym’s debut is a vibrant journey of expression.
Cym will be showcasing her talent at the I Heart R&B concert hosted by Fusion. Her single "vibe" off her EP Love, Cym is a cute bop to get dressed to for a night out with your girls. Get to know Cym a little more below as she shares her artistry sound, and where her fascination for music began.
♡ Where did your fascination for music begin?
My fascination with music began way before I can even remember. I grew up listening to all types of music and my mom would sing with me on the way to school in the mornings. I learned vocal arrangement at a very early age and fell in love with composition and started playing instrumentals at 5 years old.
♡ How would you describe your sound?
My sound is sultry pop. My tone is very commercial and I love to mix Pop and R&B melodies over urban or vibie beats.
♡ What does R&B mean to you?
To me, R&B is a feeling. It's the music that makes you feel. Whether that is love, sadness, accomplishment, or even doubt or defeat. It's a smooth roller-coaster ride.
♡ Zodiac Sign?
I'm a Sagittarius! Through and through, we are mad determined and don't take no for an answer.
♡ Any advice to local artists/first-time performers?
Whenever you're presenting yourself, make sure it's truly you. Sometimes we artists get influenced or rubbed the wrong way by others and we lose ourselves in the "sauce" of the lifestyle. At the end of the day, you have to be happy with what you are bringing to the table. Don't change just because of someone's opinion
♡ 2021, what's next for you as an artist?
I did a lot of prepping last year due to covid and have a ton of content for everyone to see. This will be a huge year for me and my team. We are going to the top :) With love
